News & Views: Gathering in Person

July 15th, 2025

The Tuscano Team has been a hybrid workforce for going on twenty years now.  Back in 2006, Michelle Morton, who currently manages our Package, Property & Liquor department, came to us and let us know that her husband had accepted a job out of state. We didn’t want to lose Michelle, so we decided to give remote work a shot, and we’ve never looked back. Today, the majority of our team works from home at least a couple of days per week, and we have about twenty folks who are fully remote.

The hybrid model has worked out well for us, but we also believe that it’s important to gather everyone together in person periodically. In fact, we think it’s critical for maintaining a strong, connected, and high-performing company culture.

Virtual interactions can’t fully replicate the rapport that forms face-to-face. When people meet in person, they develop trust more quickly, conversations tend to be more candid and nuanced, and, as a result, bonds form that improve future collaboration, even when working remotely again.

We would hate our remote employees to feel disconnected or undervalued. Periodic meetups allow us to show our appreciation in a tangible way. They reignite a sense of belonging and enthusiasm and help remote team members see how their work contributes to the bigger picture.

In-person gatherings provide an opportunity to communicate the “why” behind the work and allow us to celebrate accomplishments and reinforce shared goals. These moments make our mission feel more real and shared; they’re not just words on a screen.

We believe these gatherings are essential for maintaining a strong culture. They reconnect people to each other, to the mission, and to the values that drive our business forward. And our people are what make us who we are.

As such, we’ll be closing our office at noon on Friday, August 8, for the annual Tuscano Summit. This year, we’re gathering in wild, wonderful West Virginia. This will be our first time at this resort, but it looks like a great property, and we have lots of fun activities planned. We’ll be back bright and early Monday morning, ready to tackle your trickiest accounts with a smile on our faces!
