Some things make me sad when I see them ‘going away’. I worry what will happen if my grandchildren don’t know what a library is because such an institution no longer exists. I don’t know how I would feel if the daily newspaper was not delivered to my door. At least if CDs become obsolete I can wallpaper a room with the album cover artwork.
I hear people saying businesses need to re-invent themselves in order to remain relevant in this age. We are a part of the Internet generation. Those of us over 30 were most affected by the advent of the World Wide Web and the revolution of technology. The generation coming on our heels may end up rejecting the web in favor of the ‘global’ network. Think about it, the mobile device (cell phone to you and me) is a more critical tool for our sons and daughters than the computer. Just ask any 14-year-old which punishment is worse – a week without a phone or a week without the computer - if you doubt me.
As I mentioned earlier in the month, we are switching the mid-month newsletter (this one) and expiration list distribution to an electronic format. For many years, we ran a mid-month mailing which contained the newsletter and expiration list for all of our customers. Last summer, when I was on our great family motorhome adventure, my sister Joady, who manages our printing and mailing, happened to be on vacation as well. What did we do? Well, Jinny was in charge and she said e-mail it! The positive response that we received from everyone was overwhelming.
Of course, we understand there are people in your office that may not want or need to receive this e-mail. Just let us know and we will happily remove their name from the distribution list, it is that painless. On the other hand, if you would like to receive all your Tuscano newsletters via e-mail and would like to stop receiving paper statements at the end of the month as well, let us know that too.
Keep in mind that there are many great features for your benefit on our website. You can issue a certificate of insurance; make a payment on a policy or your entire statement; download YTD premium and commissions; or look up policy information.
We are even more excited about the product information you can access online. If you have a worker’s comp account you need help with, just check the Workers’ Comp product page. We tell you how to get a quote, what kinds of risks we are targeting, the markets we use, and the underwriter who handles that line (and yes, we still love you to pick up the phone and run the risk by us). If you need a snowmobile quote, nothing could be easier than using our online rater. Not only can you quote, but you can also bind and issue ID cards online. Would you like an easier way to write commercial auto business? Check out the online Truck Submit. One easy format you complete allows our Transportation Team to get you a quote with our most competitive market.
We are not just another pretty website. At Tuscano, we are very proud of our legacy for being a great insurance operation – from the types of products we offer to the exceptional service and friendliness of our staff. However, as the next decade unfolds, we will be looking for ways to re-invent our services and ourselves. Personally, my goal is to become the insurance wholesaler you cannot live without.
What are you going to reinvent in 2010?
