Twice As Excited

Newsletter – Tuesday, September 1, 2009
I have a friend who recently passed away. Everyone called him Buzz and I am quite sure most of his friends never even knew his given name. People started to call him Buzz in his youth because he could never sit still – he was always doing something. Buzz believed the harder he worked the luckier he got. He also believed that he could only expect people around him to get half as excited about an idea as he would. Consequently, he would always get twice as excited as the norm. Buzz was a role model for me, and I will miss the enthusiasm he brought to every task.

I am reminded of the fact that life is filled with obstacles and bumps. As I mentioned a few weeks ago, the uphill climb makes us strong. We face difficulties that will test our resolve and challenge our priorities and values. I am no philosopher or business guru, but I do know that to be successful we have to have a plan and be committed to working extremely hard. We also need to be proactive in our actions – take the ball and run with it, jump on the opportunity that presents itself to you, and always, always, treat other people right. When good things come your way, it is most likely because you set the ball in motion and what comes from that is the result of your hard work.

Sometimes plans change, as we are seeing with a few of the major national insurance carriers. I was playing golf last week with a Travelers rep who mentioned that Travelers is looking with renewed interest at direct outlets for personal lines. Nationwide is also opening up storefronts to see if they can compete for direct business. I am a firm believer in the independent agent system and the value it brings. As insurance professionals, we bring more to the table than access to the insurance marketplace. Just as you bring value to the insurance consumer, Tuscano brings our expertise and service to you, and we hope that helps make you a better producer.

A very good example of this expertise and service is our Heavy Casualty and Professional Liability team. They are real ‘heavy hitters’ when it comes to working on the large or more complicated GL and professional exposures. Take our newest program for Lawyers Professional Liability, for instance. Tim Hoelle, a new member of the team, is an LPL specialist. Not only does he know about the unique exposures and the coverage needs for lawyers, he knows the players in the market. A true broker, Tim knows how to put together a custom proposal. So, if you have a book of lawyers business or are interested in marketing for this business, please give Tim call. He would be happy to work with you to help grow this business. He may also be able to help you with other program business such as Accountants, Insurance Agents E&O, and the medical professional lines.

I am twice as excited about the new opportunities opening up to us at Tuscano, so that means if you are at least half as excited, that is pretty darn excited – right?
