News & Views: Honoring Our Heroes

Newsletter – Wednesday, June 1, 2022

Recently, the city of Greensburg, where we are located and many of us live, celebrated its Hometown Heroes. The honorees covered a broad spectrum; medical professionals, public servants, those who served in the armed forces, and moms and dads. After our dad passed away, Jinny came up with the idea that we should honor Bill as a hometown hero and so we did. Dad graduated early from high school so he could join the Navy. He was only 17 and had not yet left American soil on May 8, 1945, when Victory in Europe was declared. When the conflict ended in the Pacific, he was on a Navy boat with other service members that would be part of the peace forces. His sense of duty always led him to take action – whether it was to join the Navy, go on a mission trip to a children’s home in Guatemala, or to run for Congress. For all of our heroes, I’d like to thank you for the benefits we enjoy because of the service you perform.

At Tuscano Agency, being an insurance hero is kind of in our DNA. With a man like Bill Tuscano as your founder heard time and again, “do what’s right”. We have whole teams of folks who go to heroic measures doing everything from logging in your new business applications – yes interpreting handwriting can take heroic measures - to turning around your certificate requests lightning fast.

I’m convinced it takes a special kind of hero to work on large brokerage accounts. These types of risks are often unique and fairly complicated. Happily, we have the team to handle them. Jeremy George and Linda Bobro are putting out some amazing quotes and binding some terrific accounts. Some recent brokerage account success stories:

  • $3 million excess policy for a fuel hauler for $40,000
  • $11.3 million Inland Marine policy for contractor’s equipment with claims for $250,000
  • GL/Pollution/Excess/Auto/Work Comp for a Recycler for $375,000

You’ll be the hero for your client when you use Tuscano’s brokerage team!

Memorial Day is one of my most anticipated holidays; it signals the official start of summer and vacation season! Robin and I hosted our first cookout of 2022 last Thursday just to kick off the holiday weekend. It was fun to share a meal of burgers and ‘dogs, tater salad, and baked beans. It was also swell to hear about summer plans being made. We have some avid campers in our crowd who sport everything from the jumbo size motorhome to those that like to jump on their motorcycle and do some tent camping. Speaking of tents, you have to ask Robin about his new [car] roof-top tent! Teri and I are going to stick to our Airbnb!

When you think about it, Airbnb and VRBOs have revolutionized the vacation industry. At Tuscano, we are seeing more and more of these vacation rental property accounts and we happily insure them. Of course, carriers have different appetites. Even so, we can insure properties where only a portion of the home is rented, or where the home is occupied by the owners but is rented only a few times a year or for a whole season, and we can insure homes rented full-time on a short-term basis. It’s a mix & match type of exposure and we’re happy to step up and help you find a home for your client’s home. Call our Personal Lines team if you have one of these accounts to discuss. They are happy to serve!

I'd love to receive feedback on how we are doing; call or drop me an email
