Accounting Clerk Job Description

We are a growing company in an interesting and challenging segment of the insurance industry and we are always looking for talented individuals to join our team.

This is a summary and is intended to help a candidate understand the general concepts and responsibilities required for this position. Tasks and responsibilities may be added, deleted or changed as our business changes.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Accept the responsibilities and deliver outstanding customer service in the execution of:

  • Entering customer daily receipts, including scanning checks to bank or taking deposit to bank if needed
  • Managing customer online payments, including daily upload to bank
  • Reconciling and entering credit card and ACH payments from customers and finance companies
  • Monitoring unapplied cash receipts
  • Processing physical and ACH payments to customers and finance companies for commissions and credits
  • Answering customer phone and email inquiries, coordinating adjustments as needed
  • Managing vendor payables
  • Reconciling company credit card expense payments
  • Send out first notices for collections and handle responses
  • Backing up team members and other related duties as assigned

Job Skills, Competencies & Qualifications:

  • Excellent customer service skills – oral and written communication.
  • Mathematical skills; the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, commissions, pro-rata, and percentages. 
  • Ability to apply concepts of insurance in relation to accounting functions.
  • Efficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Align with our customer service expectations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of customer information.
  • Manage various tasks at one time and maintain company service standards.
  • Use  critical and analytical thinking to provide solutions for customers
  • Demonstrate decisiveness
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment.
  • Collaborate with team members and build positive working relationships, both internally and externally.
  • Some accounting experience preferred.
  • Willingness to take external accounting courses to further accounting knowledge.
