News & Views: I know a guy

Newsletter – Thursday, October 17, 2019
I know a guy; after thirty-five years in this business, I know quite a few! When I reflect on all of the people I have met and rubbed shoulders with in this business – both on the producer side and the carrier side - I consider myself fortunate. As an independent, E&S wholesaler, Tuscano has a great vantage point to observe the industry. Along the way, I have been lucky enough to meet and work with insurance professionals across the U.S. and around the world. That’s pretty good for a small-town guy from Western Pennsylvania.

I know a guy, who knows a guy. This week started with a meeting in Columbus, OH. Several other independent wholesalers met with senior management from Nationwide E&S (aka Scottsdale Ins. Co.). As you know, Scottsdale is a member of the Nationwide Group of companies and Nationwide E&S is the specialty and surplus lines division of the parent company. Nationwide E&S has a long tradition of bringing its partners together for advisory meetings. That makes me a lucky guy; I too get to listen and learn from some of the smartest people in the industry.

There’s a guy, not just any guy, Kirt Walker, who was recently named CEO of Nationwide. He joined our group and shared his passion and vision for the company. I appreciated the fact his comments were not solely about growth goals, profitability, or investment in technology. Kirt is driven by his passion for people, his associates, their policyholders, and their wholesale and retail partners. Kirt and I think alike in that there is a noble purpose in the job we do: peace of mind, financial responsibility, securing investments, and allowing people to follow their dreams.

There was a guy once, Alfred Henry Tuscano, who just needed a job after losing his farm in the Great Depression. That guy went to work for the Farm Bureau of Ohio, the forerunner of Nationwide Insurance. That guy also gave Bill Tuscano the seed money to start the Tuscano Agency. Now you can see how the Tuscano Agency has been built on years of dedication to service, helping producers with hard to place business, and coming through for you when you needed it an hour ago.

It’s nice to feature different products or teams in the newsletter, but, if you really want to know about the business we write or if we can help you with an account, just call us - 800-442-8063 - and we’ll connect you to an underwriter. Or email any underwriter, manager, or info@tuscano.com, and we’ll hook you up. There’s also a lot of great content about our products, what we write and where we write online at tuscano.com. You should definitely check it out.

We have CE coming soon. We'll be in Clarks Summit and Lancaster at the end of this month. Get the details and register at tuscano.com/CE.

Have a great day – and remember, we’re your guy!
