News & Views: Putting in the Miles

Last week my nephew Robin, who leads the Commercial Transportation Team here at Tuscano, invited me to go mountain biking with him up on Laurel Mountain. I think he noticed I have been riding my bike at lunchtime on the railroad grade trail that runs right below our office and thought I was up to the challenge. Either that, or he was trying to induce a heart attack and take my job!
 
I love living in Southwestern Pennsylvania, in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains. There are so many recreational options in the midst of spectacular scenery. I do enjoy the hiking trails on Laurel Mountain in every season – skiing and hiking are a joy, but Robin introduced a whole new perspective to what I thought were the beginner trails! 
 
Let me tell you mountain biking is nothing like riding a nice, flat-graded gravel trail. We went up hills and I huffed; we went down hills and I puffed; we went over rocks I thought were small and I squeaked! Funny, when I have hiked these trails I have never noticed how rocky they are! We did 8 miles which was fun and challenging, and I loved being in the woods. But I doubt I will be buying a mountain bike anytime soon. As experiences go, I’m glad to have done it. But I do have to confess that this weekend I will be back on the golf course, which is how I will be getting my miles in this summer. 
 
We recently rolled out our direct bill initiative for 100% of our Personal Lines business. If the carrier does not offer direct bill, then Tuscano will. The team has done a great job in building a platform and anticipating how we can best serve both you and your policyholder. It has been a big shift for us, but so far we believe things have gone very well and the feedback we are getting is very positive. 
 
We always want to distinguish ourselves with our customer service, but offering direct billing of the policyholder and premium collection is also a great way to stand out from the crowd. Yes, it is a shameless attempt to make doing business with Tuscano so easy you won’t even think about sending your Personal Lines brokerage to any other wholesaler! Add that to our fantastic Personal Lines staff who are knowledgeable and helpful and you have the perfect recipe for easy to do business with. We love to write your personal umbrellas, all types of habitational business, high-net-worth individuals, recreational vehicles, motorcycles, and so much more!
 
All of the people here at Tuscano are great to work with but I’d like to give a big shout out for our Transportation Team (no, this wasn’t a condition for Robin letting me walk off the mountain!). I think we have the most knowledgeable, friendliest, and most helpful trucking and transportation underwriters and support crew in the industry! I’m not biased - I see the work they do day in and out. They know trucks and the trucking industry.
