News & Views: Tuscano's Musical Chairs

I am a white hat guy. You know, the kind in old Westerns that wore the white hat and fought against the bad dudes in the black hats? I want to be the good guy, do the right thing, and of course, win! This is one of the ways I am motivated. If you have ever seen one of our flyers on Success Stories, you will pick up on this Tuscano-ism. Tuscano underwriters define success by writing your hard-to-place, unusual, or last-minute insurance risks!

A long time ago, I used to do the hiring and I’ll take some credit that we have so many talented folks here at Tuscano. But when I was the doing the interviewing, it often turned into a sales pitch for Tuscano! Back then we just wanted to get people in the open seat and helping out with the workload as quickly as possible. Training was done by osmosis! Nowadays I only get to meet new hires after they accept the job offer; we seldom put people in their ‘seat’ until they’ve been thoroughly introduced to Tuscano’s way of doing business. Lucky for us, we are still hiring great talent as we build a team of motivated and knowledgeable people that will carry us well into the future.

That being said, I want to let you know about some upcoming staff moves and changes we are making as we grow. Many of you have worked with Michelle Morton over the years (17 in fact, can you believe it?). Whatever role Michelle has been in she has always shown us her initiative and desire to learn and grow. For the past several years Michelle has been underwriting in the Package, Property, and Liquor team. I am happy to share with you all that Michelle is taking on a new challenge within Tuscano and stepping into a management role. She will be starting out as an assistant manager for Property & Casualty, working closely with Ryan and Tim and helping our commercial P&C staff members and managers.

Since we had an opening in the Package, Property, and Liquor Team, Lily Tuscano (who has been underwriting in Personal Lines) will be moving into Michelle’s underwriting role. Lily is another life-long Tuscano employee, and we are pretty pumped about her taking on this new challenge! And, because Lily is moving to commercial, we had an opening in Personal Lines that Carrie Bush will be filling. Carrie has been an assistant underwriter in Personal Lines for a few years now and is ready to step into this new role. Aimee Papuga will also be moving from our Policy Service team to Personal Lines in order to fill the vacancy left by Carrie. Phew! All of these changes will be happening over the course of the month. Never fear though, all of our staff is at your service!

We understand that the key to winning (and success) is building relationships. We believe in starting there because out of relationships comes great communication and a service attitude. When you know us and we know you, everyone pulls together to get the job done well. And in this market, you need to be prepared because one day an account is writeable in your standard market and the next it won’t be! And some days you will need us to get to a standard market. Our staff is excited every day that the phone rings and you have a challenge on the other end. If you have any doubts that Tuscano is up to the challenge, check out our website where we share some recent examples of accounts we’ve written. I’ll bet there are some classes you didn’t know we could write!
