News & Views: Shop Small

Newsletter – Monday, December 1, 2014

Teri sent me to work Monday morning with a to-go cup of coffee, a shopping list, and a wave. I’m thinking this means family time is over. The holiday weekend was fun but hectic, and I agree with one staff member who I overheard saying – “I need a vacation from my vacation”! I know the Tuscano family hit a high mark for entertaining friends and family last weekend because we ran out of Ziploc bags, plastic drink cups, and toilet paper!

I am hoping you had a chance to do something fun last weekend, maybe you even had a chance to Shop Small. I am happy to jump on this bandwagon which American Express has championed because I am all about local. I like to eat local, work local, and shop local. And I especially like to hear about small businesses thriving in my community. Rather than send your dollars to Seattle, San Francisco or Freeport, Maine, why not consider keeping them in your hometown? And I’m not talking about the Best Buy, Macy’s or Home Depot at the local mega-mall. I’m talking about shopkeepers and artists, coffee shops and sandwich shops (if you are lucky like me) that line the streets of your town and are run by your friends and neighbors – people, who like you, invest in your community.

You don’t need me to remind you that the end of the year is rapidly approaching. I know you probably have several January 1 renewals that you need to work on so I’ll keep this newsletter brief. Send them to Tuscano! If they are already with a brokerage facility, why not let us take a look at them, or better yet, give us a call and we’ll let you know on the phone if it even makes sense to send us the apps. You will be surprised how often we can help – even if you thought Tuscano was too local (or small)!

Got to head out now – I have shopping to do!
