Quick – name your favorite thing about Thanksgiving Day! Teri loves watching the Macy’s parade curled up on the couch with our kids. My brother Al loves the pecan pie. My mother’s favorite thing is organizing the feast and telling everyone what to bring. I think Jinny’s favorite is running the local Turkey Trot, but she would also add drinking Bloody Marys afterwards. My staff certainly loves the long holiday weekend, and there are some that extend it into the opening day of Buck Season.

Having lists of favorite things is a great way to remind myself that I have so much to be thankful for even when difficulties appear – and stay, and stay, and well, you know. This year I will be better at thankfulness – one day at a time.

One of the things I love about Thanksgiving is preparing a big meal for my family and then sitting back to enjoy their company. Hospitality is a gift both Teri and I enjoy. Perhaps that is one reason the Tuscano Agency has focused on writing hospitality business. Any risk that serves food or beverage falls into this favorite class for us. As for the types of risks we cover, we’ll write everything from ‘white tablecloth’ restaurants to nightclubs to a sports bar as well as the neighborhood pub where everyone knows your name. We’ve seen it all in this line of business: from new ventures to franchises, risks that need full assault and battery limits to the restaurant that wants an exception to rating their liquor liability on their over-priced wine list! Thank goodness for our talented team of underwriters who are happy to talk through an account and give you options on how to best cover your local establishment.

I also love Thanksgiving because our family goes out of their way to share this day; our celebration is made even sweeter because of the five generations that gather. Needless to say, we could fill a daycare with the kids that run around. So naturally, that leads me to tell you how Tuscano writes all types and sizes of day care risks. And while I know many of your in-house markets will write this class more freely than they used to, we’ve got a great little BOP product that is worth your consideration because we bind close to half of what we quote. In 30 years of writing this class, there aren’t many types of risks we haven’t seen or underwritten. Thankfully, we have a number of carriers with a broad appetite for childcare, pre-schools, after-school, adult care and even doggie day care. Give us a call and Jeanette, Matt, Renee, or Nikki in our Small Business Unit will take care of you!

As I write this letter, I am mindful of my blessings, which makes a very long list, but chief among them are the people I work with at the Tuscano Agency and the wonderful customers and friends we’ve made over the years. So while there is much about this holiday season that brings us joy and makes us smile, let’s all add a pinch more of thankfulness and I am sure we’ll be better for it.

Have a wonderful holiday and don’t forget we’ll be closed Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after. We’ll see you bright and early on Monday, December 1 – unless of course one of your favorite things is hanging out in the woods!
