Social Networking

Newsletter – Monday, November 16, 2009

My sister has a Facebook account. She says she set one up for herself so she could understand the new trends in social media. I don’t believe her – she has way too much fun ‘Facebooking’. She has posted on everything from her marathon results to her vacations and her grandkids. How would I know this because I don’t Facebook.

What is it about networking on sites like Facebook, LinkedIn or the like? What happened to good old face-to-face networking? If all we need is an electronic connection to one another we could get rid of offices, meetings, bars… need I go on? Thank goodness there is still a technical dinosaur in our office (me) or you may never see Tuscano people out and about. I hope that many of you have had the opportunity to network with us in the last 11 months. With opportunities like CE held at the agency, regional B2B meetings near your town, H2U Happy Hour (coming soon in Pittsburgh), or good old-fashioned agency visits by our staff, we believe face time is quality time.

Would I like a cool new way to tell all of you about the goings on here at Tuscano? Sure I would – but for now, it is called a newsletter. That doesn’t mean things couldn’t change. After all, when Jinny got an iPhone, I wasn’t far behind…

All year long it has felt like I was running in mud while balancing a spinning plate on a cue stick on my forehead and juggling poison darts while blindfolded. Whew – did that just sound like whining to you? This year has been something of a challenge to me. However, since this is Thanksgiving time (strategically placed in the calendar to cause reflection in the process of giving thanks) now is a good time for me to look back on 2009 and acknowledge some of the good things that have happened:

Tim Hoelle joined our organization and brought his expertise in Professional lines and brokerage to Tuscano. This gives us a huge advantage now in writing and competing on allied medical, lawyers professional, and Architects & Engineers business to name a few lines.

We acquired several new markets including the CyberComp work comp program, Carolina Casualty for commercial auto and a highly competitive program for Lawyers Professional.

Emily Casino joined us as our new Sales & Marketing Director. I knew we had good Karma when Emily showed up on our doorstep! Emily’s job is to listen to you and make sure I hear what you are saying!

Of course, there are many things worth giving thanks for this and every year – our families, our health, our country and our freedom. Won’t you join me this Thanksgiving Day to give thanks for the goodness in our lives and the many ties that bind us?

Thank You.
