Foal Shopping

Newsletter – Tuesday, June 16, 2009
As President of the Tuscano Agency I make dozens of decisions a day – sometimes I even get to make the big ones! Usually, I bring the ideas and opportunities to the table and then my management team goes to work. But, when it came time to make a decision about whether Grace Tuscano should own and raise a foal, my team said Teri and I were on our own.

Foal shopping is a lot like puppy shopping. You can’t turn back once you go down that road. Of course, we have our concerns about raising the little guy. While Grace has been riding with her Aunt Joady since she was six and has been in 4-H for three years now, I’m still wondering if I am ready to meet this challenge. In the meantime, we are running a horse naming pool – so feel free to get in on it. I do get to choose the middle name in case ownership reverts to me!

Ok – so how many of you remember what the price of gas was one year ago? Most of us were paying over $4.00/gallon. Do you recall what the rhetoric was from the auto industry? GM and Chrysler had just announced their sales figures were down 25% and more. The talk was about closing down a few factories and maybe re-tooling the Hummer brand. Go figure – how quickly the shocking becomes the norm.

Here’s another shocker (or is it the norm?) - Tuscano has just added another remarkable new tool for our brokers to use on our website! While you already know we are now the exclusive wholesaler for the Swiss Re Workers Comp program in PA, we needed to deal with the unique way the Swiss Re program was underwritten. They have departed from an Acord based submission. Instead, Swiss Re’s rating and underwriting system has the potential for a unique set of underwriting questions for each PCRB class on the policy. How could we get the information needed to provide a quote and do it without making our customers crazy? As I mentioned above, I made the executive decision that we needed to find a way to make this program work.

Our technical team got together and turned this potential for disaster into a home run. The Online Submit for Workers Comp can be accessed from the R2U Toolbox page or from the Workers Comp Product Page. What we provide is the ability for you to select the classes on the account, and either print the Acord apps and class supplements to complete by hand, or you can jump right into the submission and complete it online in minutes – I know because I can do it in less than 5 minutes and I am a lousy typist. This is mostly information you will have in your file and less than is required on an Acord app. When you are finished, the submission is logged into our management system and in an underwriter’s inbox in less than an hour. The rest of the good news it when it comes time to bind, all we really need is a signed Acord 130 – your submission will already serve as the supplement to the app.

You don’t have to be a cave man to try it. If you would like more information about this market or some help walking through the submission process, don’t hesitate to call Annie or Marilyn.

Let the fun begin!
