Hamilton!! I'm hardly a follower of arts & culture but even I have heard about the Broadway musical making waves and getting rave reviews! So, when I opened Jinny's Christmas gift to Teri and me it took a while to figure out that inside the 832-page biography on Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow were two tickets to Hamilton, an American Musical in Chicago. 

The ten-dollar Founding Father without a father got a lot farther by workin' a lot harder...

I've only been to a handful of musical productions, usually under duress, but I must say this was an amazing experience. I love American history and I discovered through the Hamilton story that I knew very little about this founding father. I especially loved how they portrayed his desperation and drive to be someone and change the world. At the same time, the musical representation was very honest about the failings and humanity of Hamilton. He was a flawed human being just like me, but he still managed to shape the future of our country. Alexander Hamilton is quite possibly one of the most influential figures in our country's history and a huge part of why America has remained strong and thrived over the last 200 hundred plus years. 

Hey yo, I'm just like my country I'm young, scrappy, and hungry and I'm not throwing away my shot!

One of the things that left the greatest impression on me was the complete disposal of musical stereotypes. By this, I mean everything from Hamilton performing a rap to the diversity of the actors, including a black George Washington and an Asian King George! Again, I am no theater critic but this musical production deserves all of the attention it is getting. I think Hamilton is the West Side Story of this generation. 

I know that we can win. I know that greatness lies in you. But remember from here on in, history has its eyes on you.

Sometimes I wish Hamilton were around to fix the insurance market. I know I say this every seven years or so but golly, the market sure is crazy soft! Standard markets are snapping up more accounts that have typically been the bread and butter of the E&S space. They are definitely driving prices down in certain segments. In response, half of our markets seem to be going one direction (rates are down) and the other half are going the other (rates are up)! We are seeing a lot of re-underwriting of books of business, which is great if you need us to jump in and help you replace coverage for a risk that gets caught in the purge. On the up side, this is hardly new news! Tuscano underwriters have lived through many of these market fluctuations (I did not call them old - they are just experienced!)

You will appreciate the Property/Package team's experience when it comes to placing fraternal clubs and habitational risks. Really, they can help you out with almost any kind of property driven account that you can't place with your in-house markets. Regardless of whether there is a problem with the occupancy, there is a wind exposure or the current carrier wants to modify critical terms and conditions of the coverage, give them a call! (Because they are young scrappy and hungry and they'll not throw away their shot!)

P.S. if you don't have a resourceful sister like I do who managed to snag box office tickets at face value, definitely catch the PBS documentary Hamilton's America. It is almost as good as the real thing!
