News & Views: Kitchen Stuff

On most days, I wake up before the sun is even shining in Bermuda. Consequently, I have to find something to do outside of the bedroom where my wife never wakes up before the sun is shining in Ligonier, PA!

While I enjoy my first cup of coffee, I'll take advantage of this time to redd up* around the kitchen. If your house is anything like ours, the kitchen counter is the catch-all for... well everything!  And because we spend so much time in our kitchen we also have a lot of kitchen 'stuff'. Recently I was putting things away and wondered, how many artistic interpretations of a banana holder does one family need? Does owning 9 frying pans indicate an obsession? (Although I do have a favorite cast iron skillet that weighs at least 10 pounds). If I were a chef I suppose it would be acceptable to own several types of frying pans along with expensive knives and kitchen gadgets. But as you probably know, I am really just a chef wanna-be.

Aside from the superfluity, it all comes down to the American obsession of needing more room to keep all the stuff we think we need. In my next life I just might open a restaurant since I have plenty of the tools of the trade!

Speaking of which, our property team underwriters are experts at writing hospitality business: restaurants, food trucks, bars, social clubs, caterers - you name it. They have all the tools for their trade and the knowledge to find the right market and the appropriate coverage for your accounts. Every restaurant and bar is different, whether it is because of the apartment upstairs, a high percentage of alcohol sales, or the fact that it's a new venture. We have a market for all that! And, we have a team of people who are helpful, responsive, and want you to be successful.

Insuring stuff and the places people keep their stuff is one of the fundamental reasons we are in the insurance business. I like to think of our profession as noble and essential - we want to protect people and their assets. Writing habitational business - basically anywhere people live - is core business for Tuscano. The property can be big or small. It doesn't matter if it is multi-family, on the coast, or occupied by students! Individual dwelling policies of all types are quickly quoted and issued in our personal lines department. Other types of habitational business such as schedules of dwellings, apartment buildings, student housing, or mixed-occupancy properties are expertly underwritten by our Commercial Property/Package Team.

Have a plentiful month and enjoy the fall weather. Don't forget to be mindful that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and a good time to support cancer research and the organizations that support this cause.

P.S. By the way, I really did say 'redd up' meaning "to clear an area or to make it tidy". The phrase is especially common in Pennsylvania where I grew up hearing it all the time! According to the world-wide-web, the term goes back to Old Norse rydhja, and can be traced from the 15th century to the present, particularly in dialects of Scotland and the North of England. So there!
