News & Views: Our National Pastime

Shopping cart

Look out baseball; I believe shopping has supplanted you as our national pastime. In fact, I know some people (and I am related to at least 2) who could easily go pro. Compared to them, I am strictly minor league! I love to grocery shop and I tolerate clothes shopping - but only under duress. I don’t mind car shopping, but Teri has to drag me around when she is shopping for house ‘stuff’. If I could pick any store at all to meander through the aisles, it would be a toss-up between Total Wine and the local Ace Hardware store.

Yet, this weekend I reached an all-time low when we needed to shop for a replacement cell phone for my teen-aged son, Sam. I dislike shopping so much that I briefly contemplated making a dental appointment.

First, it kills me that they take your name and give you a number while you wait for the next available sales rep – where have I heard that before!? I am trying to spend money and they are trying to give me a reason to turn around and walk right out of the store! By the time they called our number, Sam already knew the exact phone he wanted, which, he has been wanting all year. I am feeling pretty generous towards him now that I know he is passing tenth grade! Once they ring us up and I sign on the dotted line, I realize I am close to paying for a new phone every other month just in service charges! What sets me off though is that they want to sell me insurance on the device, and it comes out to nearly a 10% rate! Guess what? Sam is self-insuring this phone.

I would hate to think that anyone who came to Tuscano for insurance ever felt this dissatisfied with their experience. If I could have my way (which isn’t often) I would make Tuscano into the locally-sourced, all-natural, purveyor of quality products you choose for all your brokerage insurance needs. That’s a stretch I know, but while our roots are all about the people we do business with, our circle has expanded.

In just the last week, the underwriting teams here at Tuscano have written a wide variety of risks up and down the East Coast. We’ve bound a VA hotel package, a NC flooring contractor, liquor liability on a restaurant in TX, an umbrella for a water filter distributor in GA, and a vacant property undergoing renovation in NY. The truth is we can write all these classes and more in all 21 states we do business in. We have a variety of products and markets and that makes for a great insurance buying experience. Give us a call to discuss your next brokerage account!

We are your wholesaler with local roots but a regional reach. When you are ‘shopping’ for insurance you can rely on Tuscano for good quality, selection, and people who will treat you well.
