I love hitting goals. I also love and appreciate looking back and celebrating milestones. Like the time I ran 5.5 miles in the Pittsburgh Marathon relay or when I went 3 whole weeks without even a glass of wine.

Here at Tuscano we do seem to find reasons to celebrate (early & often!) because we recognize the commitment and hard work that goes into hitting goals and milestones. As Bill Tuscano was famous for saying “You work hard, you play hard.” In fact, if you ever visit our office you will see a timeline on the wall in our staff meeting room that highlights many of the milestones of the Agency’s 45 years. More than a few of those celebrate the people in our organization that we have been fortunate to work with over the years.

Well, we have hit yet another milestone here at Tuscano on two fronts! We hit an all-time high in the number of new employees hired since the beginning of this year. With these fresh new faces comes new enthusiasm for growing our business and at the same time committing ourselves to our service mission & vision. Our goal is that every one of the people who join our team will love their job and find the work they do purposeful. I’m guessing this rings true for many of us here at Tuscano because there are 40 people who have worked here for more than 10 years. There are also 7 who have been here at least 20 years and 7 more who have worked at Tuscano for over 30 years!

Yet, this month we have an even more significant milestone to celebrate. Irene Barbera, our Accounting Department and Compliance Manager, will mark 40 years in this business. I have no idea how she circumvented the child labor laws in 1975 when she first started!

More impressive than Irene’s tenure here at Tuscano is that she has been giving back to the insurance community for so many years. Irene has served in many professional insurance organizations. She has served as President of the local IAIP chapter (formerly NAIW), the PA Surplus Lines Organization, and the Insurance Club of Pittsburgh. Irene has been a part of the Tuscano management team since 2001. So, we are fortunate to have someone as knowledgeable and passionate about our business working side by side with us every day. I’ll bet you have an Irene in your office too, and that’s what makes our business such a great industry to work in! Please join me in congratulating Irene for her 40 years of dedication and service and the value she brings to us!

As we head into summer, I think you will find a bump in prospects and customers reaching out to you with insurance needs. One of the big bumps we see this time of year is start-up contractors and tradesmen (woodworkers popping out of the woodwork?). Whether you have a chance to write a new venture or a re-location, give Tuscano a call! This is right up our alley: general contractors, roofers, handy-persons, and many other classes of risks. Give us a call! Or, you can get an instant quote on over 50 contracting classes from piano tuning to window cleaning at tuscano.com!

Tuscano will be closing our office early (celebrating again) this Friday May 22 at 1:00PM for the Memorial Day weekend. We’ll be back and ready to make a difference bright and early Tuesday morning.

Have a safe and happy Memorial Day, and take a moment this weekend to honor the men and women who have fallen in war or military action.
